Who will sell Fiat cars?

Chrysler this week hosted about 400 Chrysler Group dealers to outline the requirements to become a Fiat dealer in the United States. The dealers met with the Chrysler Group team responsible for establishing a Fiat retail network by the end of this year. The company wants Fiat dealerships in about 165 locations, in metropolitan areas chosen for their high concentration of small-car registrations. There are seven dealers likely to apply for two dealerships in the Orlando market. Mike Maroone likes it, so you know AutoNati0n will be in the mix. No specific word yet on South Florida…

We successfully marketed the Daewoo brand in South Florida, ultimately creating the number 1 and number 2 dealers in the Daewoo organization. South Florida should be perfect for the Fiat 500.

GM considering Miami for dealership without salesmen

GM is considering building “test drive studios” in Philadelphia, LA, Chicago and perhaps Miami. The concept is you can test drive a GM vehicle and the competition. Like GM says, “may the best car win.” Promotion via online media would target competitive buyers and invite them in for a “no-pressure” test drive of all the vehicles they are considering.

SET exercises two-week cancellation, pulls all ad dollars from ABC affiliates

ABC News is reporting that Southeast Toyota Distributors, through 22Squared, has cancelled all buys on ABC stations in the 5-state SET territory. Budget being shifted to other broadcast and cable TV. Seems that ABC News was beating this drum just a little bit too hard for the folks in Deerfield Beach. If it were me, I would be taking the hit for the client and claiming that I could not recommend the ABC editorial environment at this time.

At least one local Toyota dealer in this market has pulled budget from one station deemed unfriendly to Toyota.

Chrysler spends bailout cash in Italy?

After laying off nearly all the remaining Ad people in Detroit, and taking taxpayer-financed bailout money, Chrysler turned to an Italian agency to produce this (recycled from 2008) POS:

Italian-made Chrysler 300C TV commercial

I like Italian food, Italian people and their geography. I like just about everything about Italy. But I would never presume to know enough to do a TV commercial for Olive Oil, get it translated, and run it in Italy. Because I would probably do something stupid. Like using a Euro-spec license plate in the ad… I’d be really surprised if this train wreck sees the light of day in US markets. BBDO, you need to act now!
